What age can I commence practicing karate with your school?

Kyoshi Julia’s classes (headquarters) commence at 5 years. There is no upper age limit.  The classes are split into the following categories:

Pee Wee 5-7 Years, Youngsters 8-16 Years, Adults 16 Years.+

Please refer to the appropriate homepages for information on Danehill, Hassocks women, Ditchling and London dojo’s.

How do I start?

Pee Wee & Youngster classes are run slightly differently depending on the area.  Haywards Heath, and Burgess Hill classes are run in partnership with the Dolphin and Triangle leisure centres.  Youngsters first sign up for an introductory class with the centres concerned.  This is a 6-week course designed to give the child and the parents a good understanding of the practice of karate and the Renshinkan School.  At the end of the course, the child may then become a full member of  Renshinkan England.

Turners Hill (The Ark). Just come along, have a go and we will take it from there! If you would prefer to find out more before coming please contact Kyoshi Julia.

Ardingly College and Burgess Hill School. Just sign up via your Activities Options, come along and practice.  As a new student you will be asked to join Renshinkan England after half term.  Parents, if you would like to discuss your child’s training before joining the class  please contact Kyoshi Julia.

Adults. Just turn up, have a go and we will take it from there! If you would prefer to have a chat or e-mail before coming please make contact with Kyoshi Julia.

Do I need a karate suit?

Not initially, but once you have joined Renshinkan England it is compulsory.  You can order your gi (karate suit) from your Sensei (instructor), or via the Members website. In the meantime, just wear track suit bottoms, t-shirt and a sweat shirt.  Please bring a towel and a bottle of water with you.
